ELO Rating System
How your rank is calculated
ALTCS uses an ELO-based rating system to rank players however there are bonuses to make the rating system more interesting. Every player starts at 1000 ELO. After each match, your rating goes up or down based on the match result and the strength of your opponents.
How ELO Changes
After every match, your ELO change is calculated using the standard ELO formula. The amount you gain or lose depends on:
- 1.Your ELO vs opponent average ELO — beating higher-rated opponents rewards more points. Losing to lower-rated opponents costs more.
- 2.K-Factor (experience level) — new players have larger rating swings so they can find their true skill level faster.
K-Factor by Experience
The K-Factor controls how much your rating changes per match. It decreases as you play more games, making ratings more stable over time.
| Games Played | K-Factor | Rating Volatility |
|---|---|---|
| 0 – 29 | 32 | High — calibration phase |
| 30 – 99 | 16 | Medium — settling in |
| 100+ | 10 | Low — stable rating |
Bonus Multipliers
On wins, bonus multipliers can boost your ELO gains. These only apply to wins — losses are never multiplied.
Win Streak Bonus
Consecutive wins increase your ELO multiplier. Streaks reset after a loss or 3 days of inactivity.
Map Variety Bonus
Playing on a map different from your last 2 matches earns a 1.2x bonus on your ELO gain.
Rank Tiers
Your ELO determines your rank. Climb through the tiers to prove your skill.
